Glastonbury Festival 2013

The London Underground

The London Underground – London’s sound system culture

Having debuted to widespread critical acclaim at last year's Festival, Glastonbury's most spectacular venue is back showcasing London's finest underground talent all through the night.

Each night The London Underground celebrates a different aspect of the capital city’s unique musical heritage:

Thursday - “Female Trouble” Revered London rude girl Miss Pink (BM Soho) headlines Thursday’s mash-up with an all girl line-up including roots reggae authority Matty Dreadless.

Friday - BM Soho get on board to present “The Deeper Side of Dub-Step”. A tough session of grimy urban beats and Drum ‘N’ Bass featuring Rinse FM DJ’s, DJ Flight, D-Bridge and Youngsta. Hosted by the infamous SP:MC (Shogun Audio).

Saturday - The London Underground presents “London: The Story of Hybrid House” - Charting the evolution of house music from the import of early US Deep House from the likes of Strictly Rhythm, Smack Production and the New Jersey sound, through “Speed Garage”, “UK Garage” and “2- Step”. Special guests will lead the all-star cast.

Sunday - “Digital Jamaica” After last year’s monster session with Saxon Sound, the LU Crew are back with this year’s digital reggae marathon. Starting in 1986 with Wayne Smith and Prince Jammy’s seminal “Sleng Teng” album, following computerized production into the golden age of Dancehall in the early 1990’s. Original rockers Channel One and south London pioneers RDK Hi Fi dig deep into the crates.

The London Underground lobby is home to a gang of dubious characters. Keep your head down and watch your wallet… David Rosenberg (Shunt) directs this brand new site-specific theatrical installation in association with The Roundhouse Theatre.
